Digital Learning Specialist, SY2014-2015
I developed the following online resources as a Digital Learning Specialist in Boston Public Schools in collaboration with other members of The Digital Learning Team. Additional examples of my approach to professional development are available on request.
Featured on Google+ and broadcast live on YouTube, these twice-monthly panels featured the voices and digital work of teachers throughout the Boston Public Schools. Teachers were invited based on their innovation in their practice, and shared examples of student work, creative teaching ideas, and learning tips for their colleagues. Their ideas were broadcast and archived on our team YouTube Channel.
This series, facilitated by our Digital Learning Team and my fellow Digital Learning Specialist, covers four Google Apps for Education in eight workshops (one online and one face-to-face workshop for each app). In online interactive broadcasts, we discuss how Google Drive, Classroom, Sites, and Blogger can be used to build students’ digital literacies and teachers’ digital pedagogies. The series was designed flexibly such that teachers could participate in some or all workshops to receive professional development points or for their own professional learning purposes.
This course covers some of the fundamental tenets of online and blended learning, designing for accessibility (or, Universal Design for Learning), designing engaging online professional development, and ethical design of online professional development. It guides BPS PD professionals through the process of creating their own online/blended course within BPSLearns, our Learning Management System.
#BPSPLN Twitter Chats
In monthly Twitter chats and at events throughout the district, the Digital Learning Team develops community and professional networks throughout the Boston Public Schools. Monthly Twitter chats revolved around the monthly theme, which was also addressed in resources and posts on the Digital Learning Team Blog.
As editor and regular poster to the Digital Learning Team blog, I posted on topics related to the monthly theme and encouraged teachers to share their digital practice in occasional guest posts. We featured resources and learning opportunities on the blog throughout the year.
